严家潭的传说

严家曾经叫做牛家潭，传说鉴湖曾有泥鳅精引发水灾。有位高人造了一头铜牛，能止水灾。但最终因为贪官陷害，铜牛精血耗尽，倒下后砸出一个深潭，名曰牛家潭即今严家潭。
相传偏门外八百里鉴湖，有条泥鳅精，常发大水淹稻田。但地方官却不管百姓死活，借筑堤为名，搜刮金银。官府不管民事，水灾一来，乡亲们只好去龙王庙磕头。
这天，一位白胡子老太公来到龙王庙，他称自己有办法治水，只求乡亲们把碎铜收集给他。人们仿佛抓住了救命稻草，家家户户砸锅卖铁，凑了一座小铜山。老者闭关七七四十九天后，作法造了一只铜牛。待泥鳅精再来犯，铜牛就能吸水让它兴不起风浪。县官得知大怒，这样自己的油水要没得攒了。于是师爷出了个主意，叫他准备九十九麻袋的石灰，对付铜牛。
泥鳅精很快又来兴风作浪，铜牛大显神通，把嘴伸进湖里就喝。县官连忙下令把九十九麻袋的生石灰扔进湖里，水面上马上滚起泡泡，湖水变得又白又涩又烫。铜牛为了救百姓，仍不顾一切地喝着滚烫的石灰水。水退了，可铜牛肚里淀结的石灰烧了起来，强忍着回到白胡须老太公的屋里，就倒了下去。铜牛倒下时砸出了一个深潭，百姓感激铜牛的牺牲，就取名叫牛家潭。

The Legend of Yan Jiatan Pond

Yan Jiatan Pond was once called Niu Jiatan Pond. It was said that loach spirit caused floods in Jianhu Lake years ago. A master built a bronze ox to fight against floods. But as a result of a frame-up set by a corrupt official, the bronze ox ran out of strength and fell down to the ground in the end, leaving a deep pond below. Thus this place was called Niu Jiatan Pond to commemorate the bronze ox, and now was called Yan Jiatan Pond.
According to legend, there was a loach spirit in Jianhu Lake, 800 miles away from Pianmen, and the loach often raised floods to destroy rice fields. However, local officials, regardless of people's lives or deaths, exploit people in the name of reinforcing the embankment. The villagers were penniless and frustrated; they had to kowtow to the Longwang Temple when it flooded.
One day, an old master with a white beard came to Longwang Temple. He said that he had a way to control flood, asking villagers to collect bronze for him. People seemed to seize the lifeline and every household smashed iron pot and pan into small pieces and sold them as scrapped iron. By using the hill of bronze he had collected, the master built a bronze ox after 49 days of seclusion. When loach spirit invaded again, the bronze ox absorbed water and made the loach unable to stir up the wind and waves. The county magistrate got extremely angry when he learned what had happened. He would have no reason to pillage the villagers if the ox controlled the floods. His tout came up with an idea, telling him to prepare ninety-nine sacks of lime to deal with bronze ox.
The loach spirit soon came to make waves again. The bronze ox showed his magic power and put his mouth into the lake to drink. At that moment, the county magistrate ordered the ninety-nine sacks of lime to be thrown into the lake. Bubbles immediately rolled on the water surface, making the lake white, astringent and hot. In order to save the people, the bronze ox still drank boiling lime water desperately. When the water receded, the lime deposited in the belly of the bronze ox burned up. The bronze ox tried to return to the master, but fell down as soon as he reached the house. When the bronze ox smashed down to the ground, a deep pond formed below his body. All the villagers appreciated the sacrifice of the bronze ox, so they named the place Niu Jiatan Pond.

엄가담(严家潭)의 전설

엄가담은 예전에 우가담(牛家潭)이라 불렸는데, 전설에 의하면 감호(鉴湖)에 미꾸라지 요정이 수해를 일으켰다고 한다. 어떤 고수는 수재를 막을 수 있는 구리 소를 한 마리 만들었다.그러나 결국 탐관오리의 모함으로 구리 소는 정혈이 고갈되어 쓰러진 후 깊은 못이 남게 되었는데 그 못을 우가담 즉 지금의 엄가담이라 부르게 되었다.
일설에는 편문 밖 800리 감호에는 미꾸라지 요정이 있어 항상 홍수가 나서 논밭이 물에 잠겼다고 한다. 그러나 지방 관리들은 백성들이 죽든 살든 아랑곳하지 않고 제방을 쌓는다는 명목으로 금과 은을 수탈했다. 관청에서는 농사를 신경쓰지 않았는데, 수해가 생기면 마을 사람들은 용왕묘에 가서 절을 하는 방법밖에 없었다.
이날, 흰 수염의 노부 한 분이 용왕묘에 와서, 그는 자신이 물을 다스릴 방법이 있다고 말했는데, 단지 마을 사람들에게 구리 조각을 그에게 모아달라고 부탁했다. 사람들은 마치 지푸라기라도 잡는 심정으로 집집마다 솥을 부수고 쇠를 팔아 작은 구리더미를 만들었다. 노인은 두문불출하여 49일 만에 구리 소 한 마리를 만들었다. 미꾸라지가 다시 침범하면, 이 동우가 물을 빨아들여 풍랑을 일으키지 못하게 할 것이다. 현관은 이 사실을 알고 크게 노했다. 이렇게 하면 더이상 돈을 더 모을 수 없게 되기 때문이다. 그래서 현관은 동우를 상대할 석회 아흔아홉 자루를 준비하라고 했다.
미꾸라지 요정은 곧 다시 와서 풍파를 일으키고, 동우는 실력을 발휘하여 호수에 입을 대어 마셨다. 현관은 아흔아홉 자루의 생석회를 호수에 던져 넣으라는 명령을 내렸고, 수면 위에는 곧 거품이 굴러서 호수가 희고 떫으며 뜨거워졌다. 동우는 백성을 구하기 위해 여전히 아랑곳하지 않고 펄펄 끓는 석회물을 마셨다. 물이 빠졌으나, 동우 배속에 묻은 석회가 타기 시작하자, 꾹꾹 참고 흰 수염 노부의 집으로 돌아가 쓰러졌다. 동우가 쓰러질 때 깊은 못이 나왔는데, 백성들은 동우의 희생에 감격하여 그 못을 우가담이라 이름지어 불렀다.

厳家譚は牛家譚と呼ばれ、鑑湖ではドジョウ精による水害があったと言われている。ある高貴な人はかつて1頭の銅の牛を作って、水害を止めることができた。しかし、ついに貪欲な役人に陥れられ、銅牛の精血を使い果たして倒れた後に残された深譚を、牛家譚とは今厳家譚のことである。
門の外の八百里の鑑湖には、ドジョウの精がいて、よく水田に大水を出すと伝えられている。しかし、地方官は庶民の生死を顧みず、堤防を築くという名目で金銀をかき集めていた。役人は民事にかかわりなく、水害になると村人たちはやむなく竜王廟に行ってお参りをした。
その日、竜王廟にやってきた白ひげの老太公は、自分には治水の方法があると言って、村の人たちに銅くずを集めてくれと頼んだ。人々は命綱をつかんだかのように、家々は鉄をはたいて小さな銅山を手に入れた。老人は七七四十九日間監禁した後、やり方をして銅の牛を1頭作った。ドジョウ精が再犯してくると、銅牛は水を吸収して波風を立てないようにすることができる。県官は激怒したことを知って、これでは自分の油もたまっていないだろう。そこで師匠は考えをめぐらして、九十九麻袋の石灰を用意して、銅の牛に対処するように言った。
ドジョウ精はすぐにまた波風を立てに来て、銅牛は大得意になって湖に口を突っ込んで飲んだ。県庁は急いで九十九袋の生石灰を湖に投げ込むよう命じた。水面には泡が沸き起こり、湖の水は白く渋く熱くなった。銅牛は庶民を救うために、熱い石灰水をがむしゃらに飲んでいた。水がひくと、銅や牛の腹の中に溜まっていた石灰が燃え上がり、我慢して白ひげの老太公の部屋に戻ると、倒れてしまった。銅牛が倒れた時に深い譚が打ち出され、民は銅牛の犠牲に感謝し、牛家潭と名づけられた。
